Born in Taipei Taiwan. Multidisciplinary artist Xharkie Chen ( Szu-Yu, Chen ) seamlessly blends music, illustration, fashion, literature, and dance to capture the essence of life, crafting works that reflect her distinctive perspective. Immersed in a childhood rich with various forms of artistic influences, she began her musical journey at the age of five, studying piano, joining her school’s percussion ensemble, and exploring dance. By twelve, she had taken up her electric guitar and entered Taiwan’s indie music scene. As a songwriter, vocalist, and guitarist, she is strongly inspired by the 1970s punk music scene and the 1990s Riot Grrrl movement, and founded Taiwan's youngest all-female punk band during her high school years—a story that has since been immortalized in film and literature.
At the age of 11, following her diagnosis with major depressive disorder and obsessive-compulsive disorder, she began a journey of heightened sensitivity to color, form, and sensory interplay, which later evolved into synesthesia. In 2014, she revealed to her doctor a long-hidden truth: "I can see flowing colors." Encouraged by her doctor, she began translating these experiences into watercolor paintings, capturing the colors she saw as if creating a visual diary. Following the profound loss of her dog in December 2020, she turned to more tactile materials to depict the vivid, flowing colors in her mind—a practice that continues as part of her synesthetic diary, initially developed for medical research.
Deeply inspired by Existentialism, her work explores themes of life, death, sensory experience, gender, and the interconnectedness of individuals with the world. Her creations are more than visual and auditory expressions; they are emotional and philosophical dialogues. She integrates dance movements into her painting process, with her body’s rhythms fostering a profound connection to her art.
In addition to continuing her visual art creation, she remains focused on her music career. Currently, she continues to perform under the name 【XHARKIE】and plans to expand beyond Taiwan, collaborating with international artists and communities. She is also continuing with the development of her clothing brand prototypes. Looking ahead, she intends to engage more actively in social movements, using her personal experiences to contribute to society, particularly in supporting those with mental health challenges and young people seeking direction in life. She plans to collaborate with NGO organizations to promote related advocacy activities.
台湾出身のマルチ分野のアーティスト、陳思宇（Xharkie Chen・Szu-Yu, Chen・シャーキー）は、音楽、イラストレーション、ファッション、文学、ダンスを巧みに融合させ、独自の視点で生命の本質を捉える作品を創り出しています。幼少期から多様な芸術に囲まれた家庭環境で育ち、5歳でピアノを学び始め、学校の打楽器バンドに参加し、ダンスにも親しみました。12歳でエレキギターを手にし、台湾のインディーズ音楽シーンに足を踏み入れました。ソングライター、ボーカリスト、ギタリストとして、1970年代のパンク・ロック音楽シーンと1990年代のライオット・ガール運動に強く影響を受け、高校時代には台湾で最年少の女子パンクバンドを結成しました。この物語は映画や文学に記録されています。
11歳のときに重度のうつ病（メジャー・デプレッション）と強迫性障害と診断された彼女は、色彩や形、感覚の相互作用に対する感受性が高まり、それが後に共感覚（シネスティージア）への旅を始めました。2014年に「私は、流れる色が見える」という秘密を医師に打ち明け、医師の勧めでその視覚体験を水彩画に記録し始めました。ビジュアル日記のように、彼女の見た色を映し出している。2020年12月、愛犬を失って世界が崩壊してしまった頃から、より触覚的な素材を使用して鮮やかで流動的な色を表現し始め、現在も当初は医療研究の一環として発展しました「共感覚日記」を続けています。
実存主義（エクスティンシャリズム）哲学に深く影響を受けた彼女のすべての作品は、生と死、感覚体験、ジェンダー、人間と世界とのつながりといったテーマを探求しています。彼女の創作は視覚的・聴覚的表現を超え、感情的で哲学的な対話を生み出します。また、彼女は絵画制作にダンスの動きを取り入れ、身体のリズムを通じて作品との深い結びつきを育んでいます。
現在、視覚芸術の創作を続けるだけでなく、音楽活動にも引き続き注力しています。現在、【XHARKIE】として音楽活動を続け、台湾を超えて、より多くの国際的なアーティストやコミュニティとコラボレーションを行う予定です。また、独自の服飾ブランドの原型開発にも取り組んでいます。将来的には、より積極的にメンタルヘルスの啓発活動やジェンダー平等の推進を目的とした社会運動に関与し、自身の経験を社会への貢献に変換することを目指しています。特に、精神疾患患者や人生に迷いを感じる若者の支援に力を入れ、NGO団体と協力して、関連する社会活動を推進する計画です。
陳思宇（Szu-Yu, Chen / Xharkie Chen）台灣人，是一位跨領域創作的藝術家，作品涵蓋音樂、視覺藝術、文學、時尚及舞蹈。自幼受家庭環境的影響，接觸各種形式的藝術。五歲開始學習鋼琴，進入國小後加入學校的打擊樂隊並學習舞蹈。十二歲時，她開始彈奏吉他並成立獨立樂團，負責詞曲創作並擔任主唱與吉他手。她深受七零年代的龐克音樂（Punk）與九零年代暴女文化（Riot Grrrl）影響，高中時，她成立了全台灣最年輕的女子樂隊，這段故事被拍成電影與書籍紀錄。
國小時，她被診斷出重度憂鬱症與強迫症，同時開始對顏色、形式以及感官交織的現象產生強烈的共感—聯覺。2014年，她在就診過程中首次向醫生坦承她多年來隱瞞的事實：「我能看見流動的顏色」，醫生基於研究需求，鼓勵她將這些視覺經驗用圖像記錄下來，於是她開始以水彩作為表現的媒介，將這些「日記」具象化。2020年12月，面對愛犬的過世帶來的世界崩解，她轉向使用更具觸感的顏料與素材，讓她看見的流動色彩更「寫實」，並延續至今。
陳思宇的各種形式創作皆深受存在主義哲學啟發，作品探討生死的意義、感官經驗、性別議題及個體與世界的聯結。她的創作不僅僅是聲音的呈現、視覺的呈現，而是一場情感與意識的對話，通過音樂與顏色來表達內心世界的掙扎與解放。她在繪畫創作過程中融入舞蹈動作，以全身的律動激發感官的共鳴，讓身體與畫作達到深層的連結。
除了繼續視覺藝術創作，她也持續專注於音樂創作；目前，她以【XHARKIE】名義持續音樂活動，並計畫走出台灣，與更多國外藝術家與社會交流。她同時也在持續進行服飾品牌的原型。未來，除了創作，她也計畫更積極參與社會運動，將自己的經歷轉化為對社會的貢獻，尤其是幫助精神疾病患者與對生命感到徬徨的族群，目前也計畫與NGO團體合作，推動相關的社會倡導活動。
